Tragedy in Ybor City: Car Crashes into Popular Gay Bar, Four Dead and Many Injured
Four people are dead and eleven others are injured after a car crashed into the front patio area of Bradley’s on 7th in Ybor City early Saturday morning, sending shock and grief through Tampa’s LGBTQ+ community.
The crash happened just after 12:40 a.m. during a busy weekend night on 7th Avenue. According to investigators, troopers had been attempting to stop a vehicle that had been seen earlier driving at high speeds and racing in the area. The driver fled, leading officers through Tampa before losing control and crashing directly into the crowd gathered outside Bradley’s.
Three people died at the scene. A fourth died later at the hospital. Among the eleven injured, one person remains in critical condition while others are being treated for a range of injuries. All of the victims were adults who had been on or near the bar’s outdoor patio, a popular spot where patrons often gather to socialize before entering.
The driver, identified as 22-year-old Silas Sampson, was arrested at the scene and taken into custody. He is facing multiple felony charges including vehicular homicide and aggravated fleeing. Records show he had previously been cited for driving nearly 100 miles per hour just weeks ago.
Bradley’s on 7th is a well-known and long-standing LGBTQ+ bar in Tampa, recognized as a welcoming space for both locals and visitors. The crash has left many shaken, not only because of the sudden loss of life, but because it struck at a place considered safe, familiar, and central to the community’s nightlife and culture.
Local officials have called the crash “heartbreaking” and “senseless,” and the investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement agencies are reviewing the sequence of events, including the earlier reckless driving reports and the brief pursuit that preceded the collision.
A candlelight gathering is expected outside Bradley’s as the community comes together to mourn, support survivors, and honor those whose lives were lost.
No further details, including the names of the victims, have been released pending family notifications.
